Katharina Andreasen - Hybrid Space

The Cinema as a hybrid space

As the hybrid space is characterized as a spatial structure under influence of technologies, I have chosen the cinema as my example – more precisly the new 3D animated films. The 3D glasses give the film depth and turn reality upside down. Suddenly you are not just a passive spectator but instead you are drawn into the movie as an almost active player, where you have to duck in order to not to get hit by any character or object from the movie.
For a couple of hours time is no longer on ’real time’, but is controlled by the narrative of the plot, the same way as the room as you know it is turned into another realm.
The screen "has turned alive" which I think is a tendency that will be developed even more in the future following Mark Shepards footsteps.
